Producer Responsibility Extension for packaging in Hungary
As of July 1, 2023, fresh rules regarding the Extended Producer Responsibility Scheme (EPR) have been implemented in Hungary.
The “Extended Producer Responsibility Scheme (EPR) will impact foreign online retail platforms vending commodities to Hungarian customers.
Who is obliged to enroll
Merchants introducing products produced overseas to the Hungarian market for the initial time are bound by compulsory EPR compliance registration. In other words, these are importers providing goods and wrapping to Hungary.
Threshold
No specific benchmarks exist for enrolling in EPR according to Hungarian legislation. Every shipment of products containing packaging necessitates adherence to specific regulations; otherwise, strict penalties will be enforced, resulting in a cessation of commerce.
Fundamental Regulations (EPR) for Hungarian manufacturers
Adherence to the EPR regulation in Hungary encompasses the subsequent procedures:
- Enrollment with the National Waste Management Directorate of the National Inspectorate for Environment and Nature (NWMD);
- Execution of an accord with the designated entity MOHU MOL Hulladékgazdálkodási Zrt. (referred to as MOHU);
- Formulation and submission of regular reports to MOHU;
- Settlement for the quantity and dimensions of your refuse.
Authorized Representative
Parties desiring to enlist in the EPR compliance framework are not compelled to designate a representative but retain the option to do so at their discretion.
Reporting Deadline
Businesses must maintain records of their packaging and furnish their reports on a quarterly basis. The due date is the 20th of the month succeeding the reporting duration. The initial declaration must be filed by October 20, 2023.
